Monday Musings: Reindeer

Just last week I was tweeting angrily about Starbucks’ early display of Christmas garb. Now, I have the bug. Not in the garrish red and green way though, no. My eyes are gravitating toward reindeer motifs and deer motifs lately.

“Who Gives A F*** About An Oxford Comma?”

When it became commonplace to axe the oxford comma, I was skeptical. This lovely illustration is why.

Running Like: Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn always seemed to have it down in the style department. I love her iconic skinny pants, flats and sweater. Some days, when I can’t dream up anything else to wear, I refer back to this combination but bring my own spin.

1. Charlotte Tarantola, Cool Cat Sweater – $152
2. Kenneth Cole Reaction, Slip on By in Red Patent – $47.99 on Zappos

American Gothic Family

Thanks to some digging by my Uncle, this gem surfaced recently. This blogger is on the far left. This picture was taken on my grandmother’s farm back in the day. I love our popsicle-colored polar fleece. So 90’s.

Normally I don’t post on Sundays but today I was feeling inspired and thankful on Veterans’ Day. The following are a quick curation of lovely items that somehow involve liberty and the great U.S. of A.

Delicate Necklaces That Make Bold Statements

There is something about a finely crafted and delicate necklace. It is a conversation starter for one, especially this Batman number above by BK & JIO on Etsy. They all serve as a tiny metal mantra.

This Mermaid Necklace by Mother Was Right reminds me to be playful.

This Heart Necklace by Petite Co. reminds me what’s truly important.

And this Wishbone Necklace by Bijoux By Meg reminds me that I’m pretty lucky, even when things don’t go exactly my way.

Sorry Clients…Things We Designers Have All Heard Before

We’ve all cringed at them before. Those illustrious comments from clients that upon second thought sound utterly nonsensical. In a review meeting you’ll say “Sure. I’d be glad to make that sandwich more playful.” However, when you get home and sit down at your desk, not even your glossy Mac screen can cheer you up at the prospect of crafting a sandwich that has a little more spring in its step. For these beautiful and cheeky posters we can thank Sharp Suits, brainchild of designers Mark Shanley and Paddy Treacy of Mark + Paddy. Even better, the sale of posters will benefit Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin.
