Book Cover Beauty

Oh, Walden. If you have not had the chance to read this classic novel yet, it is a must. I call it the “original beach read.” Although Thoreau heads to a lake, and not the ocean, this meditative work will take you out of the hustle and bustle for just a second. This illustration is the book’s original title page, illustrated by Thoreau’s sister Sophia. The detail of this intricate line drawing is impeccable, capturing the simpleness of Thoreau’s time at Walden Pond.

The Tattoo Without the Commitment

Designer Tina Roth Eisenberg, @swissmiss, seems to be queen of creative these days. Her projects run the gamut from Teux Deux to Creative Mornings to Studio Mates. Lately though, I am after the products of her project, Tattly. Tattly offers artistic-minded tattoos and best of all, they are temporary. Look out for designs by household names like Jessica Hische as well as tattoos for when you are feeling especially cheeky.

I got this idea from The Beauty Department for Robin’s Egg Nails, a blue base with a glitter topcoat. I created my look with Essie’s Lapis of Luxury and Sally Hansen’s Hard As Nails Strobe Light.

Eastern Inspiration

While I settle for relaxing in outdoor seating at the local strip mall coffee shop, I dream of far-away locales of Africa and the East, especially in this heat. Calypso St. Barth has a beautiful Moroccan-inspired Jaipuri Rug that sent me on a search for inspiring tropical decor. Pinterest here I come!

Junebug

My friend Katherine Sandoz is an amazing local artist here in Savannah. It is so neat to live in a small corner of the world with such great talent. Now I understand the sentiments of the Twitter handle @nyisboring. There are plenty of “wide-eyed humans” here in the lowcountry and Katherine is just one of them. This month she is holding a grand sale on her works on paper. By entering the code JUNEBUG at checkout on her online boutique you can receive 60% off.

Her works for sale include those from her time spent in Lacoste as well as many of her characteristic portrait-style works. My favorites include the handful pieces referential to New York City, my previous summer habitat. Below are a few samples. Get grabbing quick!

Fibonacci Inspiration

My teachers in grade school taught me about the Fibonacci Sequence years ago. It wasn’t until I started design school that I realized how cool it actually is. This Gotye album cover reminds me of it.

Nail Polish of the Moment

Who says spring has to be limited to girlie pastels and pinks? When I think of spring I also think of what’s coming next in summer berries. This raspberry tone by OPI called Manicurist of Seville is my perfect raspberry tone for that transition.

Designer I’m Loving…Florence Broadhurst

I love these Florence Broadhurst patterns. My dear friend got me her book for Christmas and since then I’ve been obsessed. Kate Spade’s new line is now featuring the famous designer’s prints.
