Sorry Clients…Things We Designers Have All Heard Before
We’ve all cringed at them before. Those illustrious comments from clients that upon second thought sound utterly nonsensical. In a review meeting you’ll say “Sure. I’d be glad to make that sandwich more playful.” However, when you get home and sit down at your desk, not even your glossy Mac screen can cheer you up at the prospect of crafting a sandwich that has a little more spring in its step. For these beautiful and cheeky posters we can thank Sharp Suits, brainchild of designers Mark Shanley and Paddy Treacy of Mark + Paddy. Even better, the sale of posters will benefit Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin.

So Many (Beautiful) Choices
If I only had an iPhone! Society 6 is an unbelievable website full of hundreds of designs that can be purchased as art prints as well as tech cases for laptops and the iPhone. Which one would you pick?
Straight to my Heart
I’m excited to say that a few days ago I officially became a Stella & Dot stylist. The line immediately caught my eye and now I am glad to be representing it. I have always been a big fan of small charm necklaces, like this one from S&D. Visit my site here to find your own jewels or shop for the holidays.
Carolina In My Mind
Carolina has been on my mind a lot lately since I won’t get to be there until Christmas Eve. Meanwhile I will settle for these adorable necklaces that remind me home is really where the heart is. I know, totally cheesy but sometimes it helps to wear a little reminder. Ginna Earl sells the necklaces on her Etsy shop here but also has a brick and mortar establishment in my favorite little artsy town in NC, Carrboro. It’s called Vespertine. If you are ever in the area check it out!

Oui Oui
I wore this dress to work the other day and my coworker commented that I needed the perfect little red shoe to go with it. Of course a quick Zappos search led me to maybe the most expensive red flat on the site, the beautiful patent red Varina by Salavtore Ferragamo. While I will be dreaming of buying the shoes for the forseable eternity the dress is all mine and can be yours too here. It is from Trunk 13, the cutest little boutique in Savannah. Owner Lindsey updates her Facebook page regularly and takes orders and questions through it.
Mom, I’m Famous!
Design*Sponge came to town a few weeks ago to promote their new book Design*Sponge at Home and for creator Grace Bonney to give a lecture at SCAD. The talk was awesome as is her book which you can buy here. I just have to say that the most awesome part of the whole experience was having the ultimate geek-out moment of being (inadvertantly) FEATURED on D*S. Yes, that’s right folks, I’m famous. Click here and see below. Hells yeah. (I’m in the hot pink shirt)
The Best Kind of Delivery
When I first heard of Glossybox, a monthly beauty club that delivers samples to your door, I ran looking for my credit card only to find out that it is only available in the U.K. A quick google remedied the situation as I came across Birchbox. Pay just ten dollars a month and Birchbox will send you four to five luxe beauty samples curated by their meticulous staff. Brands range from Moroccan Oil to Bobbi Brown to Deborah Lippman. This is a great way to try the best products without committing to a huge bottle first. If you love something, Birchbox’s site has an online shop where you can buy the full size of all of their samples. I haven’t tried it yet but I am anxious to get my first box in the mail!
Everyone Needs a Chair
When I was a kid I would visit my grandmother’s farm in Maryland. I loved her antique furniture. Especially her green armchair. This armchair, however, was her armchair and I spent the better part of my childhood trying to finagle my way into getting to sit in it. I finally decided that when I had my own place I was going to have such a chair, one that fit me perfectly and that only I could occupy. While mine isn’t the dreamiest of interior decor it is absolutely perfect, accompanied by my coffee table topped with none other than Grace Bonney’s new book, Design*Sponge at Home.
I was lucky enough to see Grace Bonney speak last night in Savannah and get her to sign my copy. Yay!
And because everyone needs their own special chair, here is more chair inspiration from one of my favorite illustrators, Maira Kalman. I saw her exhibition at the Jewish Museum this summer in New York. Absolutely lovely.
And, the chair is pink. Even better.
The problem with being a Graphic Designer…
Do you know the show Extreme Couponing? Well, if not, we’ve all been guilty of doing just the same, buying something because of the great deal. But, you know, times are tough, no shame. I however, have a different problem. I buy things just because I like the packaging. Does it have a trusted brand name? Probably not. Does it look super awesome? ALWAYS. It is always nice to buy a product on the basis of the design and then discover that the product itself is pretty sweet too. Today I am referring to my recent purchase of J.R. Watkins Dish Soap in Lemon that I found at Target. No animal bi-products or colors and fillers. Woohoo! I will be indulging in J.R. Watkins home products for the foreseeable future.
